I have played guitar since 1973, and know every song they've written and performed. I miss them terribly. I believe the reason music in of itself has gone in the dumpster is because of their demise. They could no longer contribute to music and therefore, along with a new generation of kids who were rebelling, the music went away and was replaced with the garbage we hear today. There are still some good musicians left, but Skynyrd lead the way. I recently bought a mint condition copy of their last album with the flames in back. I had it back in 77', but my ex got it the divorce and she sold it. Still crying over that, but I got this copy and am happy again. I listen and play their music every day, and will never forget their contributions to music and the South. They will be forever in my heart until the day I get to meet Ronnie and jam with him. **************************************************************************************************************

In recent years, I have had the loving privilege of spending a lot of time with my wonderful granson. When he was in high school, I would pick him up and on any given afternoon you could find us driving down the road, singing "Simple Man," at the tops of our lungs. You see, my grandson was a young man, with an "old soul." Before being deployed to Iraq, he made a CD for his Grandma, with all of Skynyrd's best. I would listen to that CD EVERYDAY. God and Lynyrd Skynyrd returned him safely to his loving grandma.
WE LOVE LYNYRD SKYNYRD! And God Bless them all! RIP Billy Powell! **************************************************************************************************************

Name : Dave Friedman: Date Posted : 2009-01-30 06:33:17 Message : Words can't express how tragic this is for me. Lynyrd Skynyrd's music is so special. My first time witnessing the spectacle that was a live Skynyrd show was in '74 at the tender age of 14 and I was hooked from then on. Saw them 5 times with Ronnie & met him, Billy & Gary at one of those shows... in Atlanta. Such cool, approachable & down to earth people. No egos at all. Saw them 8 times with Johnny and Rossington Collins Band once in between so that's a total of 14 times I saw this amazing man play the keys. So talented. So unique. There have been many players brought in to this band in place of those that have passed or left but I don't see how they can continue now & it makes me so sad. Billy's style, presence & grace literally just can't be replaced. He was that good. As much as I'd love to see & hear more Skynyrd music & shows (if there is I'll be there) I think this looks like the end of the long flight of a very proud & "free bird". Truely a terrible loss to the music world but more importantly my heart goes out to his family, bandmates, friends & everyone else that knew & loved the man personally. RIP Billy. You were one of a kind. Also RIP to Hughie, Leon, Allen, Cassie, Steve, Ronnie and as much as it pains me to say this..... probably RIP to Lynyrd Skynyrd as well. The greatest american Rock & Roll band !! EVER !! **************************************************************************************************************
